Megahouse Variable Action Hi-Spec Galvion (Circus I)

Grab yours at BigBadToyStore !

You know how there are kid's toys and there are collector type toys/adult collectible toys? Is there a category higher than that? Bandai seems to strike a good balance between a collectible that can be handled often and a collectible that is detailed enough for adult tastes. Bandai's sub company Megahouse has made something that probably only caters to a higher level of collectors. Collectors looking for so mcuh detail that the figure ceases to be a toy. This is how I feel about this toy. It seems this is made for collectors who like to build models, people who are very delicate in handling very delicate things. Surgeon hands if you will. The Megahouse Galvion is absolutely a sight to behold but as soon as you handle it, you are rewarded with a big WTF?

At first you are in awe, the second you try and move things, you feel like you are handling a completed model or a very delicate color prototype. I keep using delicate because even the soft finish of the figure will scuff easily, parts may come off that have been glued at the factory and overall it feels like it should only be posed and left alone. However, there is a bunch of engineering going on in this figure because it is transformable. I don't dare try to transform it because you know me...I will break/scratch something and curse up a storm (this thing is expensive...almost $200!!). So I will just stare at it's beauty and rest comfortably knowing that even though I will never transform it, its good enough for me to know that it can. If Bandai straight up made a diecast version of this, I would transform it but if it's anything like Megahouse's last Robot Galatt, I will just leave it looking sexy on display.

The box is really noce. Matte and gloss finishes all around. The front flap has magnets to keep it shut. Open it to reveal a window showing the robot. However it is wrapped in plastic.
This really has a Macross vibe to it and would somehow have worked if he was in the G1 Transformers line in the same way Jetfire worked in G1, different but acceptable. It's taller than a Transformers Voyager Class figure.

I really do like the lettering on the back. The proportions, design, everything. Hits all my buttons.
Hard to tell, but the paint apps feel soft and have a smooth almost very fine sandpapery feel to them. I am afraid moving anything will scuff it all up/
This part back here is like transformer porn. It's like opening a page from a porno halfway and not being able to see the rest of what's going on. Looks like it would be a crapload of fun to transform!

Tilting the backpack away shows some more detail underneath...must resist.

And here are his alternate modes that I don't have the nerve to replicate. I almost want to transform him to enjoy it all, but it's almost a guarantee that it will turn into a scuffed up mess in my hands. If they ever clearance this guy like they did Galatt, I will buy another just so I can transform the shit out of it and not worry about messing it up. For now, this is the closest thing you'll get to a review of this guy from me. If you like it, get one at BigBadToyStore

Bandai GX-62 Danguard Ace Soul of Chogokin robot figure

I've had my GX-62 Soul of Chogokin Danguard Ace figure for a couple of weeks now and I gotta say this is one excellent figure. I was a little dissapointed in finding out that this was going to be on the smaller scale of Chogokin. Danguard is as far as I know one of the biggest robots in the Super Robot world. However, even though it's smaller than most modern SOC, I found myself playing with this figure a lot. Yes, playing! Not the kind of playing where I fly him around the room making swooshing noises, but where I'm constantly posing him and transforming him. I never came close to doing that with the bigger Yamato Danguard Ace. Highly recommended.

The figure sports some great detail and diecast content.
The back has an alternate piece that mimmicks the folded hidden wings but as you see here it also comes with folding wings...
...that can be unfolded!
Satelizer Mode with included stand and Sky Arrow ship.
Stay tuned for video review.

Takara Tomy Seekers: Elites RAMJET DIRGE THRUST Transformers Set

Here is the Elites set of Seekers released as an Asia Exclusive. Of course these are done up in excellent paint deco and not official releases of the US. Very pricey but probably a cost effective alternative to buying these seekers individually. The payoff is arguably the best looking version and most definitely the best painted versions of these figures.

Impossible Toys Spike and Daniel Exosuit-01 & Exosuit-02 figures

If you thought the Impossible Toys Sparkplug and Spike figures were cool, you may want to check out the Exosuit figures of Spike and Daniel. Again these don't necessarily scale well with anything specific. In fact, they don't even scale with the aforementioned figures. Nonetheless, really cool stuff. The set will run you $19.99.

Bandai GE-54 VF-25F Chogokin vs. GE-42

I have to admit that the GE-42 VF-25F (ver. 1.0) was an impulse buy because it was on sale. I bought it a few months back and only opened it to check if it was complete. Never transformed it. Then recently it was released again except it was heavily updated and with a GE-54 designation. It is known as the Renewal version or V 2.0. I decided that I would tackle the video for the new one and I went ahead and did a comparison video. I am SO glad I bought the renewal. Having the original really makes me appreciate just how well done the renewal is. I mean I thought the original was OK, but the new one is just right and makes the original look old-school with weird proportions.
GE-54 box (Ver.2.0)

GE-42 box (Ver.1.0)
The following shows the 2 sets side by side with the GE-42 on the left and the GE-54 on the right.
Both come in a styro tray that is actually the same dimensions but different mold. The renewal is laid out on an angle.

Side by side they can be mistaken for the same set, but looking closer reveals many differences.

Gerwalk mode is OK on the GE-42, but not great, however the GE-54 is much better.
GE-42. Meh.

GE-54. Nice.
The GE-54's legs can be spread and angled out more than the GE-42. You kind of have to cheat with the GE-42 to make it look passable.
Never has the odd proportions of the GE-42 been more evident than when standing next to the new GE-54.

Stunning... now check out the video for more.

Super Gobots Defendor and Warpath

Although I had my share of Gobots and/or bootlegs of Gobots as a kid, they didnt quite do it for me although I did have a couple I toyed around with for a while. I never did get a Super Gobot of my own until just recently when I got 2 of them. The boxes were were in relatively good shape but the figures were absolutely pristine. So much so that I couldn't get myself to transform them. I tried but realized I may scrape something or break it so I left 'em in robot mode which is my preferred mode. Let's take a look at Defendor and Warpath.
