Chogokin HoiHoi-San review

Ok, it didn't take me long to decide on what route I was going to take with the review for this HoiHoi-San Chogokin. I will only be doing the review for my blog since it's a rather simplistic review and I do not have comfortable access to my review space.

A little backstory according to Wikipedia:
"In the year 20XX, insects have become immune to all pesticides. To combat the rising plague of cockroaches and other household pests, the tiny, doll-like extermination androids known as "Hoihoi-san" were created. They can hunt down insects and kill them with such miniaturized weapons as minuscule machine guns and tiny combat knives. They can also (and at the same time) be treated as dolls, by dressing them up in costumes and buying accessories for them. The main robot of the anime wears a maid uniform and rabbit ears as accessories."


I introduce to you HoiHoi-San. She comes in a small cubish box with wonderful graphics.

Once inside, you'll find her lying down in a small plastic tray on top of other accessory trays. Pop her out of the box, attach her hair bit and her antenna and you get this.

Her face is very well done. It has a smooth, non-shiny flesh tone to it. Her expressionless eyes have a good bit of detail to them.

If you think that her default face is a little too expressionless, you can always use the included optional faces which I believe only come with the very first release of this figure.

From the back, you can see her long curled up hair which is also nicely detailed with very faint airbrushing details.

You'll notice in the picture above that her antenna are attached to the back of her head. Removing it will reveal the plug which is actually made of metal like a real plug.

A really cool gimmick that is included with this set is a charging station. If she were real, you could charge her when her batteries are low. If you swap out her shoes for alternate bare feet, you will see that there are contacts on the bottoms.

This is the charging dock for HoiHoi-San. All you have to do is place her onto the stand...

...and as soon as she makes contact with the leads, the charging light comes on! Very cool indeed.

She comes with a big blue gun that is painted very very nicely in a matte finish. Note how her finger grasp the handle perfectly.

She also comes with a nicely painted little white gun...

...and a nicely detailed chromed blade sword.

All three weapons can be stored on the side of her base.

As she is a Chogokin, there are metal bits to be found, but most are up here somewhere.

The only other parts of the set are alternate hands. She has her standard closed fists, gun/sword hands, open hands and an "L" shaped hand.

This Chogokin is definitely NOT for everyone. Even if you liked Panda-Z, this may be a stretch for you. However it is very well made, nicely detailed and very well executed. Since it is made in 1:1 scales, she is pretty small. If I had to eyeball it I would say 4". She would be much cooler if she actually killed roaches. I guess give Bandai another 30 years and our wish will come true.

Chogokin HoiHoi-San Unboxing

Just wanted to show you guys this new release I got today. I only unboxed it and made a really quick video so you guys can check it out before I MAYBE do a full review on it. The figure doesn't really scream "REVIEW ME" as it's not generally my cup of tea but it is a robot. If I get enough requests, I will take a stab at it. Whether I do it on my Youtube channel or collectiondx's all depends on how in depth or serious it will be. If you don't know about this doll, apparently roaches take over Japan and bug spray doesn't work. So you can go out and buy cute exterminator bots to kill roaches for you with tiny machine guns. I believe this figure is 1:1 scale which means it's teeny. A little over 4" maybe?

Impressions so far. Fair amount of accessories, including a bonus extra faces package that is supposedly only part of the first preorder release of the figure. The figure almost seems like it is a plastic action Figma-type figure but it does have some diecast within. It's not terribly heavy but it does have diecast. I cant tell where due to the heat in here. The picture shows her as-is from the box. I have not put on her antenna ears nor her "alfalfa" hair on top.

Updates for 05/23/11 Tons of stuff!

So guys, just stopping in for some updates. I've been super busy what with a baby on the way, planning a baby shower, doing a truckload of reviews on my youtube channel and collectiondx etc. I'm barely finding the time to pop in and talk about some of my new acquisitions and strange findings. I've got a bunch of cheap Bandai vinyl-mostly Masked/Kamen Rider with a sprinkling of Ultraman and kaiju. I really recommend having a couple of your favorite characters in vinyl form. They are cheap and cool. Let me show you a few that I got recently. Make sure to check out the reviews I did for these on my youtube channel.

During a recent get-together, I managed to pick up a tiny Dougram figure that I've always wanted. Make sure to check the video review out so you can see how cool it really is. It's a bit heavy for it's small size seeing as it is made out of diecast metal.

As you may or may not know, I received my GX-59 Daltanious and I have already finished the written and video reviews of the figure. A few people asked how it compares to the original. Really aside from looks, there is no comparison. Each one does what it does great. The old is a toy you can throw around without much fear of breaking. Its a brick in my experience. The new is more articulated but obviously tailored for a more mature crowd who tends to take care of their stuff. In other words, they made it for those who loved the original as a kid, but now want something a bit more accurate. Although Daltanious has more plastic than most would want, it is still heavy and weighs about as much as the original.

 One of my favorite parts of the opening box experience is the very sweet styrofoam tray complete with windowed cover. Very vintagey.

I recently went through some of the stuff I don't need in my collection (which isn't much) and all I came up with were a bunch of new Transformers toys I have no use for. I will probably sell these off as one big lot.

I've picked up a bunch of new stuff, it's dizzying and hard to keep track of. I wanted to show you guys this cool little Reideen Chogokin I picked up recently.

Almost forgot! I also got some cool vinyl Ultraman figures from Banpresto. I picked up Ultraman and Ultraman Mebius. I have not gotten around to opening Mebius but check out my review of good ol Ultraman in the meantime.

So what am I working on now? Well it's mostly stuff for CollectionDX. I just finished up some reviews of Bandai's One Piece SH Figuarts Zero figures on Anime CDX. Check those out.

Daltanious GX-56 Update, and TF Scourge

So we all know, I hope, that the almighty SOC Daltanius GX-59 was released on April 26th. And we all know I was anxiously awaiting it. I brought you the first up close video available, at least on Youtube and I gave you guys some real nice closeups. So it's only natural I would be one of the first to have this lovely figure in my hands. Well, it turns out I received the almighty GX-59 today, a mere 4 days after its release. However not in my hands...they happened to deliver it to the wrong post office. What's the chances of that right? Not only did this defeat the purpose of paying a very expensive EMS shipping option, but I missed out on bringing you an upclose look this weekend of the figure.

The good news is, although I wont have any exclusive footage for you guys, I am doing the review of the GX-59 for collectiondx.com. Although I want to have the review up as soon as possible, I also want to make it one of the best reviews I can possibly make. I tossed out my old backdrops, put away my very trusty Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 (which I have used for ALL my photo reviews up until now.) I also recently retired my Sony Webbie HD camera which was used up until a few weeks ago.

My new arsenal now consists of a new Canon Rebel T3 for photos and a new Canon HF-S100 HD Video Camera. I brought out the big guns for this Daltanious review.I also have a couple of new backdrops. So far the Canon T3 is better than I thought.

Moving on to other news, I finally found Generations Scourge in the stores. My review will probably come late in the game since there are other reviews in the works right now, but know that this figure is darn cool. Check out the other reviews available and try and tell me I'm wrong.

Some updates and maybe my own custom chogokin?

What's up guys? My posts seem to get less and less frequent but fear not, I am still hard at work on things which leave me little time to work on my blog. So what have I been up to? Well, let's see as far as reviews, I've finally finished with the Dragon Shiryu Saint Cloth Myth review on CDX which now has a video.

I've also finished the Ultra Act Ultraman Mebius review.

For personal reviews, I'm working on an old-school Godaikin favorite. I'll give you a hint, he's tall and blue and no, it's not Tetsujin...I WISH. I don't think I will ever have the pleasure of owning a Tetsujin unless I travel back in time. So look out for that.

My weekend consisted of travelling to Massachusetts from Jersey to visit with my CollectionDx buddies. We swapped stories, showed off some new stuff and talked about some ideas we had. I got to check out some cool stuff like the Toynami Shogun Dairugger which JoshB recently reviewed and much more. I was also able to bring home some cool stuff which I will be reviewing soon on my channel and some stuff I picked up to review for Anime CollectionDX. They are the S.H. Figuarts One Piece figures. I have a few of those, so if you like those figures stay tuned. What else...

Oh yeah, so I have a friend in Colombia who may be able to make my chogokin dream come true. He will help me realize my very own custom made 100% Diecast chogokin! Its in the brainstorming stages and while I imagined I could make it happen very quickly, I have now decided to take it slow and analyze my options. Originally I had imagined using an existing vintage chogokin as the base for my design, but now I am thinking of getting a full 3D printed prototype and make it 100% my own design, so that pretty much frees up the imagination a bit. It will be an old school type design but I will do my best to make it feel like it came out of a 70's anime. If you dig the idea of custom chogokins, you may want to check out Brownnoise Productions. They've already had a head start on the their own builds and from what I've seen, it's turning out to be super awesome. They've also got a real nice acrylic Unicron base so check that out too.

I'm back!

Well I sort of have been back if you've been keeping up with my Youtube channel and CollectionDX reviews. I only got the 2 upper wisdom teeth taken out and I healed up pretty quick. No more annoying headaches! I still got the lower 2 to go, but I feel so much better now.

I know I haven't posted anything real new to this blog since Ive been real busy with video stuff. Speaking of video, I have tossed my old "HD" camera and upgraded to a Canon HF-S100 so my videos should be looking a lot better. This camera is great and when I learn how to fiddle more with apertures and shutter speeds and whatnot.

I will be getting back to doing the Patlabor 1/24 CLAT figure soon I hope. Here is some stuff I'm working on:

Patlabor C.L.A.T. 01, Maser Canon Type 66 and a toothache!

Guys, I have a HORRID toothache. About 2 weeks ago I went to the dentist and was told I need 4 teeth pulled out, so in typical lazy fashion I decided to put off the pulling of the teeth. I am TOTALLY regretting that now because I am in serious jump-out-the window type pain. I feel like I am going to lose my mind. It's unbearable to say the least. I've become immune to pain relievers and benzocane does nothing but increase the pain. Go figure. Anyways, don't let your wisdom teeth take over. If they tell you they should be pulled out, DO IT. Oh my God it's excruciating...

However, I did manage to get one full blown review done and one review which I started and said to hell with it, so it turned out to be a half-assed look-what-I-got non-review. I started out doing a full review but the pain was too intense and I lost my focus way too much.

So my full review is of the Aoshima Type 66 #2 Maser Cannon from War of the Gargantuas. It is a very awesome remote control Gokin release of their Gokin static model. This one has cool gimmicks. What kind? you'll just have to watch the video to find out. It's so cool that I may pick up the static model.

PATLABOR CLAT
Now here is my crappy useless filming of a totally awesome release by Yamato of the Patlabor C.L.A.T. 1/24 scale Ingram. Figure= really cool, video= fail. But I will be back soon with a full review of this figure. OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH... oh the throbbing pain!
